A study of the historical, philosophical, political, legal, sociological, and ethical bases of (N-12) education in the United States. The course also examines the role of the educator, public and private educational institutions, cultural diversity, and contemporary educational issues. Hours of class per week: 3.

| ED 201 Introduction to Teaching |

This course will prepare students for success in a guided field placement. Topics include: professionalism, observation techniques, behavior management, time management, code of ethics, among others. It is anticipated that students will achieve the Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting certification requirement in this course. Prerequisites: ED171 or ED175, SS291, and SS298 or SS299 (may be taken concurrently). Hours of class per week: 1.

| ED 297 Field Experience with Seminar |

| Guided field experience for students in enrolled in teacher education transfer programs. Students spend thirty clock hours in observation during the semester and one hour per week in a seminar session where they reflect on their field experiences and integrate the insights they have achieved in their fieldwork. Prerequisites: ED171 or ED175, ED201, SS291, and SS298 or SS299. Hours of class per week: 1. (+ additional hours to be arranged). | |
